Maryland's Historic National Road (Route 40)
Celebrate the 375th anniversary of Maryland's founding by following America's first federally funded highway. It stretches west from Baltimore's lively, attraction-surrounded Inner Harbor to the rugged, beautiful Appalachian mountains and then across the state border on beyond. Starting just east of Albuquerque, the Turquoise Trail passes by Sandia Peak Aerial Tramway (there's a great view from the top) and the quaint communities of Madrid and Cerrillos.
